W124 Versions

The W124 was made from 1985 all the way up to 1997. It came with many body styles and a huge variety of engines of both petrol and diesel.

You should be aware and learn about the 3 generations of w124 production before acquiring one:

1985-89 was the fist generation without the side moldings and non-covered jack points. This is regarded most valuable by collectors as the most classic version, but also with the least standard equipment.

In 1989-93 was “Face lift 1” which brought colour-matched side cladding with polished trim, new seats and engine improvements. This is the best version for an every day car. They all had ABS brakes by this time making a far more secure option.

Generataion 3 or “Face lift 2” came out in late 1993 and was in production until 1997. This had new modern engine variations with 16 valves, new grille and clear side inductors and new tail lenses. By enthusiasts these are regarded as the lesser quality due to the “new” water based environmental paints which is inferior to older model. They rust easier and have longevity issues of the more fragile engines. 3. gen. w124s have more equipment as standard though which is appealing for many people.
